Region information.
Serengeti National Park spans about 14,750 square kilometers of grassland, acacia woodland, and granite kopjes, famous for the Great Migration. Herds gather in the south from December to March, shift through central plains in April, reach the western corridor in May and June, then move to the Mara River from July to October before returning with the short rains. Expect abundant predators and varied antelope. Park rules restrict night drives and off-road driving. River crossings are seasonal and never guaranteed. Birding is rewarding year-round, with migrants arriving after the rains.
