Where is Chongwe Camp and how do I get there?

At the confluence of the Chongwe and Zambezi rivers inside Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park. Most guests fly by light aircraft to Royal Airstrip (around 20 minutes from camp); Jeki is also used in season, with a game drive or boat transfer into camp.

What is the accommodation like?

Eight classic safari tents on the riverfront, each with an ensuite bathroom and open-air shower. Shared spaces include a pool, lounge, bar and a convivial campfire for starlit evenings.

What safari activities are offered?

A flexible mix of day and night game drives, guided walking safaris, canoeing quiet channels, relaxed boat cruises and seasonal catch-and-release tiger fishing. A wildlife hide offers low-angle photography; an optional sleepout adds adventure.

Relaxed elephant herds, pods of hippo, crocodile and plentiful plains game, with strong predator viewing including lion, leopard and wild dog in the greater valley. Birding is superb, with late-season carmine bee-eaters nesting on riverbanks.

Lower Zambezi National Park (≈4,092 km²) is framed by the Zambezi River and the Zambezi Escarpment, with channels, winterthorn forests and open pans supporting around 60 mammal and 378 bird species. Expect relaxed elephant herds, pods of hippo, abundant predators and endangered wild dog.
