Highlights & Activities.

Nature drives trace gravel plains and riverbanks for desert-adapted elephant, giraffe, oryx and Hartmann’s mountain zebra. Guided walks explore geology and tracks; dune-sensitive quad-bike outings add fun on designated routes. When water levels allow, boat the Kunene for birding, crocs and river perspectives; catch-and-release fishing is possible on request. Visit (respectfully and only when appropriate) a working Himba community for deep cultural context. Back at camp, swim in the pool, book in-tent massages, stargaze with a laser pointer, and enjoy private deck dinners overlooking the river and sandscapes, and time on the sunken viewing deck.

Region information.

Serra Cafema lies in Namibia’s far-north Kunene, on the Himba-owned Marienfluss Conservancy: 300,000 hectares of river, dunes and otherworldly geology along the Angola border. Fog off the Atlantic and scant rainfall shape a stark desert where ephemeral rivers sustain desert-adapted elephant, giraffe, oryx and Hartmann’s mountain zebra; Nile crocodiles patrol the Kunene. Private-area guidelines allow guided walks, nature drives and dune-sensitive quad routes; boating is seasonal, governed by water levels. Access is fly-in to the camp airstrip and a scenic 1–1.5 hour road transfer through Hartmann’s Valley to camp. Skies are exceptionally dark for stargazing.
