Region information.

Benguerra lies within Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago National Park, a protected marine area of reef, seagrass, mangroves and dunes spread across five main islands. Warm, clear waters host reef fish, turtles, dolphins and seasonal whales, while birders seek flamingos, terns and osprey on coastal lagoons. Excellent diving and snorkeling center on Two-Mile Reef and nearby sites; dhow sailing, kayaking and castaway sandbars round out easy days. Access is via Vilanculos with helicopter transfers to the island. Conservation is active here, including a no-take zone and community initiatives. Culture blends Mozambican coastal life with Portuguese heritage.
