Day 1 - 5 - Kulala Desert Lodge, Sossusvlei, Namibia

Brick and canvas tents under thatch open to a veranda with dune views. Each tent has an en suite bathroom with indoor shower, double basin vanity and flush toilet, plus easy chairs, writing desk, luggage rack, electronic safe, ceiling and pedestal fans, tea and coffee and complimentary in tent Wi-Fi. Behind the tent, stairs lead to a private rooftop sleepout platform for stargazing when conditions allow. Hot water bottles and extra blankets are provided in winter.

Set on the 27,000 hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve bordering Namib Naukluft National Park, Kulala Desert Lodge is the closest base to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei via its private Kulala gate. Family friendly amenities include a pool, wrap around deck and spacious lounge and dining areas with desert views from camp. Days span guided nature drives, e-bike rides and walks, while nights bring southern hemisphere stars and optional hot air ballooning at sunrise.

The family suite pairs two bedrooms for easy togetherness. Each bedroom has two three quarter beds and its own en suite with indoor and outdoor showers, double vanity and separate toilet. Separate entrances lead to a shared outdoor deck with valley views. Beds are on wheels for star sleepouts on the veranda, with mosquito nets on request. Practical comforts include a writing desk, electronic safe, ceiling and pedestal fans, plus tea and coffee.

Doro Nawas sits on a ridge above the dry Aba Huab River in the Doro Nawas Conservancy, overlooking wide desert plains. Between activities, families enjoy a pool with shaded loungers, indoor and outdoor dining, a bar and a rooftop terrace for panoramic sunsets, with Wi-Fi in the main area. Guided nature drives and walks explore Damaraland’s valleys and outcrops, with easy excursions to Twyfelfontein’s rock engravings, the Petrified Forest, Burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipes.
